The Speak Social team joined other volunteer companies in the New and Social Media sectors to form a Social Good Summit committee here in Austin. In case you’re not familiar with the Social Good Project nationally (and if so, shame on you), this cause is backed by Mashable and the UN Foundation to encourage groups across the country to use New Media technology to solve the world’s biggest problems.

In Austin, our committee is working with the city and our top employing businesses to hold a Work-From-Home Day on February 8, 2013. The goal of this day is to study the impact of removing a majority of traffic from city roads can have on our air quality. If this day is successful, our plan is to make it a regular event. However, we understand that the only way this event can truly be successful is if businesses still find it to be an efficient workday – even with team members separated from the office. That is why we are implementing Google Tools with training to teach Austin businesses how to use the tools they need to work together remotely.

WHEN:
January 11th – 11 a.m.

The City of Austin signed a resolution initiated by the Social Good Summit Austin Committee to hold a citywide Work-From-Home Day on Friday, February 8th to study the effect of taking a significant number of cars off the road daily can have on the air quality in Austin.  If we see an impact, our goal is to make this initiative a regular event.

However, the only way that this Work-From-Home initiative can be successful for both Austin businesses and our environment is to make this an efficient workday even with teams separated from the workplace.
